Module 6 - GIS5050 - Georeferencing

Image
This lab teaches us how to tell a raster dataset where it will belong on a map. This week we used 3 different .jpg images to georeference using control points. Control points are used to select the source image location (in this case uwf_n or uwf_s1) to the target map (in this case the world imagery basemap). You will make points on buildings or intersection of roads that stands out. After you made around 6 control points, you can use a second order polynomial. You typically want control points in each corner of the map and the center. Having the target control point further away from the source point creates a higher RMSE error. This lab I learned that projection matters a lot, as I was georeferencing the Heritage Hall to the base world imagery map instead of the already georeferenced uwf_n and uwf_s1 maps. Travis explained to me that the basemap are projected in "Web Mercator" while the UWF images are in ...
